Robert Wirz
Nov 2008

Born in Switerland 1936. I am the grandson and nephew of two very well known Austrian painters and professors of fine arts. This heritage immeasurably influenced my passion for painting. During summer vacations in Austria, my uncle, Joseph Stoitzner, taught me the basic rules and techniques of oil and watercolor painting. This was the only professional training I ever received.

I started with watercolor on rice paper when I was 15 years old. In 1960, I immigrated to the United States. As an engineer in the field of photogrammetry, I traveled all over the world. This fact also greatly impacted my art work. Once in the United States, I painted exclusively abstract oils for about 25 years.

After that I started developing a unique quache watercolor wash technique, still taking an abstract approach. I love to experiment with color and design, many times letting the image and washed paint lead me towards a play of illusions. The geometric aspect of my work definitely comes from years of exposure to aerial photography.

In 1994 I moved from New York to New Mexico and my artwork changed again. The beauty and grandeur of the Land of Enchantment overwhelmed me and I started to paint oils again. Three years later I joined the New Mexico Watercolor society and am now a signature Member. I have been juried into over 30 exhibits and have received numerous awards, from Best in Show to Honorable Mention. My latest achievement is the status of Signature Member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Scocieties.

Four and a half years ago I joined the Nob Hill Gallery, a co-op gallery in the Mossman Center on 7400 Montgomery Blvd. NE in Albuquerque.

I was raised in Dallas, Texas where I spent most of my life until I moved to Austin after I graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BFA. After several years of waiting tables and waiting to be discovered, I decided I was not too well bred to teach after all and got my teacher's certificate at the University of Texas. ?

I taught art for two years in Pearsall, Texas, a small rural town known as the peanut capital of the world and the hometown of George Strait. I took to teaching like a duck to water. I enjoyed watching kids discover the joy of creativity. From there I moved to the beautiful coastal town of Rockport, Texas where I taught for 18 years. I taught the last years of my 24 year career in Keller, Texas, outside of Fort Worth.?

In the summers, while living in Rockport, I went back to school at Sul Ross State University where I pursued a Masters degree in art and education. I completed the degree in 2002.

When I retired in 2007 I realized my longtime goal of moving to New Mexico. I had become fascinated and , yes, enchanted with this beautiful area in 1972 when I came out here with an entourage of young artists during an SMU Summer in Taos art program. I am now enjoying teaching occasional sculpture classes at Aspects of Clay in Cedar Crest, as well as doing my own work.?

The focus of my work has always been animals and people. Many of the animals you see in my work have been my beloved pets. Animals, animals, animals!! I can't get enough of them! I love being in this area where I can visit various farms and look into their beautiful faces. Clay is the medium I use the most, but I love painting, drawing and printmaking as well. Through my work I hope to express the love I feel for animals, nature and life in general. I also hope to communicate the joy of the creative process itself. My work involving the human form is often allegorical or based on Greek mythology. Much of my work reflects feelings of peaceful solitude.?

I so much enjoyed working on the Fatboy Coffee Project for Thomas. Spending time researching the animals indigenous to the countries portrayed was a true labor of love.?

If you are interested in seeing more of my work or have a project in mind with which you need my help, please contact me via my email:? mizalma@yahoo.com

Genifer Lee Buckley

August 2008

Ginifer Lee Buckley was born and raised in Roswell, NM. She spent most of her childhood driving, or being driven around the back roads of New Mexico and much of the US.

"For me, there is no more beautiful place on the planet than the Hondo Valley west of Roswell, which glows with yellows, pinks and shades of turquoise. Throughout the Land of Enchantment, however, every turn offers a new and stunning visual experience that inspires me".

Genifer's life is filled with family, gardens, and a small zoo,

"I can not stop playing in paint! I love the texture of oils, the 'dryness' of acrylics, and the change in mood a single color can bring".

Genifer's style is surrealistic, subjects are usually women and flowers. Both are full of curves, depth, swift turns, a unique beauty all their own, The use of vivid color is a compulsion, and a crucial element in her expression.

Most recently Genifer participated in numerous shows at the Innerlandscape Gallery.
